Spanyol memang masih menjadi favorit juara sebelum ke Polandia-Ukraina tahun ini.
Sementara Italia datang ke Polandia-Ukraina dengan dirundung masalah. Kasus Calciopoli membuat amunisi Italia di EURO kali ini berkurang. Banyak pihak meragukan Italia bisa lolos dari Grup C, apalagi masuk final.
Namun mitos tentang Italia yang akan berprestasi ketika dirundung masalah, terbukti kebenarannya. Sebelum nya mereka menjadi juara ketika Piala Dunia 2006 ketika sedang marak kasus Calciopoli.
Spanyol sendiri bukan tanpa masalah. Mereka menyambut EURO tanpa topskor sepanjang masa mereka, David Villa. Namun F.Torres yang menggantikan nya mampu tampil baik dengan torehan 3 gol di EURO kali ini.
Di final kali ini, Spanyol tampil dengan khas mereka, umpan satu dua sentuhan yang terbukti mampu mempecundangi Italia empat gol tanpa balas. Torres sendiri membuktikan bahwa pilihan Del Bosque membawanya tidak salah dengan sebiji gol di final kali ini.
